    I recently covered the International Housewares Show in Chicago, which in a nutshell is like an enormous candy shop filled with the coolest kitchen and household goods. This show is famous for 13 miles of aisles (literally!).

    As I started my journey up and down the aisles, one trend was definite—color! From KitchenAid to Bodum to Le Creuset, companies are introducing some bold and unexpected hues for the kitchen such as grape, raspberry, pistachio and chocolate brown and one I like to call "Big Bird yellow."

    Kitchen gadgets are being designed for even more specific uses like peeling asparagus, coring pineapples and slicing mozzarella. (No worries, can openers and flour sifters still exist but with new and improved features).

    As for coffeemakers, you can practically have your very own Barista in your house with the newest multi-beverage machines. Move over Starbucks, Krups has introduced the Nescafe Dolce Gusto—it has individual capsules like a macchiato, latte or chococino to customize your specialty drink at home and without the long line!

    Now, with 13 miles behind me and the blisters to prove it, I have picked my top two favorite items I wish I could have added to my wedding registry, that you may want to consider for yours.

    My practical and environmentally friendly runner up is the "Make & Take" oven-to-table ceramic cookware collection by Chantal. The coolest features: You can write directly on each vessel with a permanent marker that wipes off with soapy water (i.e.: Chicken Piccata/May 1) then store your leftovers inside with the airtight lids which go straight into the refrigerator or freezer. I don't know which feature is better—not having to transfer food to separate storage containers or being able to know what the contents inside are without trying to recognize it through its freezer burn coating?

    My #1 must-have pick is "The Demy"—it is like an oversized iPod exclusively for your recipes. Instead of selecting "artist" then "song", you can select "meal" (i.e. dinner) then "dish" (i.e. chicken pot pie). You can upload new recipes and transfer your old recipes directly into your Demy account online that syncs to your device. No more index cards, torn-out clippings and food-stained cookbooks to sift through. It is the kitchen companion I always wanted!
