We've come a long way

Kara (Modern Bride's executive editor) and I attended our coworker Elaine's wedding in Charleston a couple weeks ago. Both wanting to make the most of our quick jaunts south, we didn't leave town without plans in place. We were organized, prepared and knew exactly where we needed to be when.
Now rewind nine years to the last wedding Kara and I attended together. A mutual friend of ours was getting married in Scranton, PA. Neither one of us knew where we were going. ("I thought you were bringing directions." "I thought you were!") We barely made it to the church on time (we were supposed to be there early to pass out programs). We had to nix checking into our rooms before the wedding and instead got changed in the bathroom of a pizza parlor. Kara almost missed her flight home when she realized she'd left her wallet in my car (I had to make a mad dash to the airport with it and hand it off to a flight attendant waiting for me in the parking lot.)
Now back to Charleston—the wedding weekend that went off without a hitch. We'd mapquested locations, researched activities and memorized the wedding itinerary. Oh yeah, we've definitely come a long way. —Anita K. Henry, group managing editor, Modern Bride
