Amazing last-minute honeymoon bargains

As travel editor at Modern Bride, my inbox is constantly flooded with travel deals. In recent weeks I've seen some of the best I've seen in a long time. In this tough economic time, airlines, hotels, resorts and cruise lines are really going out of their way to entice Americans to travel this summer. This means there are great opportunities for honeymooners who haven't booked yet. Imagine an exotic six- to 10-night honeymoon to Tahiti, Australia, Scotland or Alaska for just $1,800-$3,800 for two, including airfare—I'm not kidding! Here's a quick sampling of what's out there:
Tahiti: If you book by May 11, Air Tahiti Nui is offering six nights with daily breakfast at the Moorea Pearl Resort and Spa (I've stayed there and it's beautiful), plus round-trip airfare from Los Angeles for just $1,398 per person. This is a fabulous value. Deals for Bora Bora are also available.
Scotland: It's Homecoming year in Scotland (in honor of the 250th anniversary of poet Robert Burns' birth), so if you have Scottish roots, it's a great time to check out the country of your ancestors with the Scotland Tartan Package. Per-person rates for roundtrip airfare from New York to Glasgow, plus six nights at a choice of 400 B&Bs (with full Scottish breakfast, of course) and a rental car range from $969 (in May) to $1,299 (in July and August).
Australia: If you've always dreamed of a honeymoon Down Under and don't mind cooler temperatures (it's winter there from June to September), check out this amazing deal: the 10-night Discover Tasmania package, starting at $1,120 per person. Book by June 31 and travel by March 31, 2010 (by then it's summer but rates may be higher), and the deal includes two nights in Melbourne, airfare from Melbourne to Tasmania (this island is superscenic and ideal for nature lovers) and eight nights at some of Tasmania's top resorts, including Cradle Mountain Lodge (which I loved—you'll wake up with wallabies outside your window!), Freycinet Lodge and a choice of capital city Hobart's coolest hotels, plus a rental car for nine days. Airfare to Australia is extra, but Qantas fares start at $820 roundtrip, so 10 days in Oz can be yours starting at $3,880 for two.
Alaska: The grandeur of the Frontier State awaits on a Princess Cruise, with oceanview cabin rates starting at just $499 per person for seven-night itineraries leaving from Vancouver, BC or Whittier, Alaska (near Anchorage) in June, July and August. With competitive airfares to both cities this summer, you can plan on spending $1,800 to $2,200 for two and get a week filled with whale- and grizzly watching, glacier-spotting and outdoor adventure (I did this cruise on Sapphire Princess a few summers ago and it was fantastic). —Donna Heiderstadt, Travel Editor, Modern Bride
