I Will/I Won't
My Fake Fiance: Would you throw a wedding just to get gifts?
In her new movie My Fake Fiancé that premieres this Sunday in ABC Family, Melissa Joan Hart plays Jennifer an eternally single woman who decides to stage a faux engagement and wedding with Vince, played by Joey Lawrence, who she meets at a friend's wedding. She will keep the gifts, he will keep the money, and the two will part ways post-wedding a little bit richer. Of course it doesn't happen exactly that way.
We spoke to Melissa and Joey and even though both enjoyed making the film, neither said they actually would marry just for the money. "It's a horrible idea and not the essence of what marriage is about," says Lawrence. Hart, who married musician Mark Wilkerson back in 2003 says, "I'm a romantic and a good Christian girl who is against using religious avenues for greed." So what do you think?
While we were chatting with Melissa and Joey, we just had to get some anecdotes and tips from them about their own weddings.
Melissa planned an opulent and romantic 90 guest reception in Italy. One thing that I think her and her character would have in common is their feelings about destination weddings. "It's a great way to cut out the rif raf you don't really want coming," she says.
For her own wedding she wore a Reem Acra ball gown. In My Fake Fiance her character's real wedding takes place in an outdoor garden so she choose a strapless dress with a green sash from David's Bridal. "You have to choose your dress based on the place that you are getting married," she says.
But my favorite tip from Hart's wedding was that she took the extra material that was hemmed from her dress and made it into a tie for her hubby-to-be so they were perfectly matched!
Joey married in a traditional white wedding at Disney World. It was intimate affair with all of his friends and family present. "People get caught up in the pressures and the day gets so big and becomes about everyone else when really the day is for the bride and groom," he says.
And if you want your guy to be as involved in the wedding planning as Joey was (he even remembered the wedding colors!) give them his advice, "it's the best day of your life and guys should want to be involved. It's only a one-time thing." —Anne Chertoff and Cari Wolfert
