California,
Get to know: Joan Shum

Courtesy of Joan Shum
Last week, I had the opportunity to meet Long Beach-based bridal gown designer Joan Shum at the lovely Gabriella New York Bridal Salon. Her vintage-inspired pieces—all designed as separates, so you can mix and match—were modeled by her twin sister, Jean. This gorgeous number is my absolute favorite—a halter top fashioned from French lace, paired with a full circle skirt embellished with lush roses hand-painted by Joan herself. All of her designs are made-to-order and everything—skirt lengths, corset styles, colors—is customized so your gown is guaranteed to be a one-of-a-kind. —Heather Lee, Assistant Editor, Brides.com Magazines
