    Crafty flowers

When I spotted these faux flowers sitting on one of my co-worker's desks, I couldn't help but ask where she got them. So when she told me she had made them herself I just needed to know how! My favorite flower, the dotted swiss bloom, can easily be formed in six simple steps and would make a beautiful addition to your party tables—it also could be a fun project for crafty guests to do at your shower. See below for the full instructions and visit heatherdonohue.wordpress.com for more information on these and other adorable additions to your big day. —Cari Wolfert

    Dotted Swiss Fabric Flowers

    Materials:
    - Dotted Swiss (or other lightweight) fabric, 1' x 2" per flower
    - Wire, straight 19 gauge, 9" per flower
    - Floral tape, about 10" per flower
    - Scalloped pinking shears or rotary cutter
    - Needle nose pliers

    1. Using pinking shears, cut a strip of fabric 1' x 2". Trim corners slightly.

    2. Cut a 5" length of 24 gauge wire, bend in half and set aside.

    3. With the fabric flat on the table in front of you, ruche fabric by folding it back and forth, holding the center between your fingers as the bloom takes shape. Slide wire over fabric where your fingers were, then grab the wire under the fabric with pliers. Twist wire a few times right under the bloom to keep its shape. Set aside.

    4. Use the needle nose pliers to make a small loop at the top of the 19 gauge wire which will become the stem.

    5. Take one side of the bloom's wire and run it through this loop. Using your fingers and pliers, wrap the flower's wire taut down and around the 19 gauge wire.

    6. Tightly wrap floral tape at the top of the stem a few times to secure it, right under the bloom, then work your way down the stem with the tape, keeping it taut and neat.
