The classic updo gets a new twist on the spring 2010 runway
Channeling Audrey Hepburn at Romona Keveza
"For the updos, I wanted the models' hair off the shoulders in order to highlight the dramatic necklines," says designer Romona Keveza. "We created soft bouffants reminiscent of Breakfast at Tiffany's, which also worked wonderfully with our veils."
"Each style created for Carolina Herrera was inspired by world-renowned painters such as Van Gogh," says hair stylist Edward Tricomi of Warren-Tricomi salon. "The French Twist was created for several dresses, but this look is timeless and classic with the softness against her face."
"We like thinking of this look as the updated French Twist," says designer Amsale. "A deep part and heavy bang give a retro feel, while keeping the look modern."
"The collection had a classic/tradtional yet modern/hip component, and I wanted to have the same feel for the hair," says Priscilla of Boston designer Tracy Uomoleale. "I love the clean off-the-face look, and the height to the crown gives it an edgier feel."
Hairstylist Meagan Hester created this deconstructed look for Angel Sanchez. "This is a soft elegant updo," says Hester. "Texture is needed, and sometimes backcombing (teasing) the whole head beforehand will give you better texture. If your hair is curly you may want to blowdry it straight, or you can get a different look with it curly."
"We wanted a fresh, clean feel for the hair and love the idea of a bun; but it was too tradtional," says Melissa Sweet designer Lia McNairy. "By being on the side this give it a non-traditional feel."
"In this case we featured more abstract chignons that were either elongated, very round or extremely clean," says hairstylist Edward Tricomi of Warren-Tricomi salon. "This look can be worn by all brides for an everlasting and classic style."
"We love the doll-like feel of this style," says designer Lia McNairy of this fun and flirty look that turns the chignon on its head. "This style is for a more off-beat bride."
Created by stylist Edward Tricomi and inspired by style icon Audrey Hepburn, this sleek look is a modern version of the actress's updo in the classic film Breakfast at Tiffany's.
This sleek chignon is knotted neatly on one side and accented with a crystal embellished head tie for an "update on a classic look," says designer Reem Acra.
